Borreliosis

Micronutrient therapy

General
In addition to antibiotic therapy, numerous micronutrients are available for the treatment of the various clinical pictures of Lyme disease to avoid or alleviate secondary symptoms. Particular attention should be paid to the long-term intake of antioxidative substances.
Immunostimulation with “biological response modifiers”
Beta-glucan activates the immune system by stimulating the formation of cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-1-beta, which in turn can bind to the glucan receptors of macrophages and neutrophils. In addition, beta-glucan suppresses the formation of superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide, which can weaken immune cells through their action as free radicals. An improvement in the activity of the natural and lymphokine-activated killer cells has also been proven.

In addition to the extraction of beta-glucan from yeast cells, the medicinal fungi frequently used in TCM Reishi and Shiitake natural beta-glucan sources. Shiitake contains Lentinian, the bioactive beta-glucan fraction, which is considered to be an efficient stimulator of the immune system. It improves the release of immunoglobulin IgA, the increased formation of T cells and intensification of the cytotoxic effect of macrophages. Reishi contains a special proteoglycan, GLIS, which especially activates the B-lymphocytes.
Inhibit ignition
Omega-3 fatty acids promote the conversion of inflammatory and immunosuppressive eicosanoids of the 2 and 4 series into anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, which favorably influence inflammatory diseases.

The boswellic acids, triterpene acids and terpene alcohols contained in the incentive smokeextract (Boswellia serrata) are particularly suitable for the treatment of acute and chronic pain caused by inflammatory processes in joints, muscles and the spinal column.
Micronutrients for the treatment of secondary diseases
antioxidants, such as pycnogenol®, coenzyme Q10 and grape-OPC are an important support in Borrelia-burgdorferi-associated clinical pictures for the avoidance of oxidative secondary damage. B vitamins support neurological symptoms. magnesium helps with muscle pain as well as cramps and twitches of the musculature. For the support of the heart functions L-Carnitin and Coenzyme Q10 are recommended. S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) can be used to treat depressive symptoms.
Improvement of antioxidative capacity and the immune system
Important free radical scavengers are Selen, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. Zinc and Vitamin C are essential for the maintenance of a functioning immune system.
